A Kiss in the Rain

Some people say that the most romantic highlight in any date would be a candlelit dinner. Others would say that it’s a moonlit stroll on the beach. Little did I know, however, that today would bring to fruition one of the most romantic notions I’ve had in mind for the longest time… a kiss in the rain.
James has initially planned for us to spend the late afternoon at the Seaside Boulevard; having frappucinos and cupcakes while watching the sunset. Unexpectedly though, the day dawned with strong winds and rainshowers. When James and I met in the mid-afternoon, one of the first things he asked me was whether or not we’d brave the stormy weather to see our plan through. I answered with a smile and an impish why not.
After a brief meeting at Glorietta, we headed for the Mall of Asia. We ordered burgers and fries from Wendy’s and then headed to the Seaside Boulevard. The strip was nearly deserted, except for a handful of couples who, like us, were armed with an umbrella and a strong conviction that sunset or no sunset, spending some time together by the bay would make for a memorable date.
The wind was blowing steadily and it was really cold. James and I were huddled together while having our dinner. It was such a surprise that the inclement weather decided to cooperate for a moment when, devoid of rain, we caught a fleeting glimpse of crimson on cerulean, a brief yet still inspirational sunset scene. James then sang several songs for me as dusk fell. And then it was as if the rest of the world started fading away until there was just me wrapped up in James’ arms, his voice, the wind, and the gently falling rain. We kissed and there it was… perfection… like so many other moments when we’re together.
The rain started falling harder then, and the wind became too cold for us to tolerate. We made our way back into the shelter that the mall provided, and it was such a pleasant surprise for us to discover that Lineage II, an MMORPG, was having its launch. We spent a while milling around the activity area, checking out the booths and cosplayers, and even managing to get some freebies. After that, we were exchanging photos through our phones when we heard the start of the fireworks display. We headed back to the bayfront and we indulged on the breathtaking view that the MoA fireworks display provided. It was so much prettier watching it up close, instead of watching it from the restaurant row the way we usually do.
It was another wonderful day with so many beautiful moments. Funny, it seems as if every time I write about a day James and I spend together, I always find something so meaningful about it. So many perfect moments, yet each is so unique in its own way. I guess, like James told me last night, “You make every moment… big or small… typical or special… always special…” And it’s exactly the same way I feel about him.
Thank you for always making me feel so happy, James. I love you infinitely.
