The Peace Prayer
July 11, 2007 by WinterAngel

Make me, Lord, a channel of your peace
Where there is hatred, Lord, let me bring Your love
Where there is injury, Your pardon Lord
And when there’s doubt, true faith in You
Make me, Lord, a channel of Your peace
When there’s despair in life, let me bring Your hope
When there’s darkness, only light
And when there’s sadness, ever joy
Master, grant that I may never seek
So much to be consoled, as to console
To be understood, as to understand
To be loved, as to love with all my soul…
Make me, Lord, a channel of your peace
It’s in pardoning that we are all pardoned
In giving to all men that we receive
And in dying that we’re born to eternal life
Master, grant that I may never seek
So much to be consoled, as to console
To be understood, as to understand
To be loved, as to love with all my soul…
This is one worship song that holds a lot of meaning for me. Our drama club performed it as a closing song for our musicale called “Tinig ng Mundo”. Everyone was all in white, the lights were all turned off, and each one of us held a candle. The song opened with all the candles unlit. As each voice soared, a candle was lit, one by one the light was passed on, until the theater was aglow with candlelight as the song closed.
At times, life makes us feel that we are groping in the dark, with no bearings, no compass, no light to guide us. But I believe the a heartfelt prayer is enough to keep the darkness at bay. Faith teaches us that there is no trial that cannot be surpassed. And while we may feel despair we must remember that there are some whose needs are greaters than ours. And while it may seem as if all is lost, we must remember that there still is so much to be thankful for.
So many people are guilty of being self-centered, myself included. Oftentimes, we are so wrapped up in the “me” and the “I” that we tend to overlook those who need us the most and those who care for us the most. And at these times, more than ever, we need to let go of ourselves and willingly make little sacrifices for others. As Mother Theresa said, “Little things are indeed little, but to have faith in little things is a great thing. For like Jesus, we belong in the world living not for ourselves, but for others. The joy of the Lord is our strength.“ And to achieve this, all we need in our arsenal would be faith and prayers.
